Braston New Energy

Battery Energy Storage Project

Project Overview

The proposed project is located on up to 20 acres of agricultural land at Braston Farm near Ayr and will provide 500MW of battery energy storage. It will comprise a series of battery containers and associated equipment including inverters, transformers and a control room. The site will also have its own substation which will facilitate the connection onto the grid.

The site location is within the Kyle Investment Area and not designated Green Belt. Although the land is agricultural it is not categorised as prime agricultural land and is free of any environmental designations. The position of the batteries on the site has been selected taking into account the topography of the site, ecological and technical constraints and is purposefully designed to minimise visual impacts. Additional landscaping and planting will also screen the site.

It is important to us that this proposal reinforces the local landscape and existing site features. We are exploring all opportunities to increase biodiversity on site as well as aiming to retain or enhance all established trees and hedgerows to ensure the project has a positive impact on local nature as well as contributing to national decarbonisation targets.
